good governmentThe council works to provide community services—like emergency response, snow removal, trash pickup—for our city. I will work to make our government as transparent as possible with services as accessible as possible. If you see a pothole, text it in – it should be that easy.
unionsLabor unions built this nation. Union jobs lead to higher wages, better benefits, and return power to people who actually work for a living. I support labor unions because St. Matties deserve higher wages and better benefits; it’s that simple!
climate changeClimate change is an existential threat that should factor into every decision before the council. The most significant threats to St. Matthews are extreme heat and extreme rainfall which leads to flash floods.
Pro-local businessSt. Matthews is the retail hub of Louisville, but it’s dominated by national chains that take our dollars out of our community. Did you know that out of a $100 spent at a locally-owned business, an estimated $67 will remain in the local economy compared to only $43 for a chain store? That is why we must do more than pay lip service to our local businesses—we need to be proactive, recruit to open office space, and encourage expansion.
racial justiceNearly every facet of American life is affected by systemic racism. Whether it’s inequities in wealth, healthcare, education, or the criminal justice system, Black and brown communities get the short end of the stick. Representation matters, and at the local level, the levers of power still elude BIPOC folks. I am the first person of color on the St. Matthews City Council and I will ensure I won’t be the last.
rEPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS The overturning of Roe v. Wade is outrageous, dangerous, and just plain wrong. A woman’s right to choose is sacred. I will continue to support reproductive rights in the commonwealth as best I can.
LGBTQ+ RIGHTS LGBTQ+ folks in our community deserve equal protection under the law and to live their lives free from discrimination, violence, and fear. St. Matthews should and will be welcoming to all.
housingWe need more housing in St. Matthews. The lack of affordable housing has led to skyrocketing rents and increasing rates of homelessness. Home ownership is central to the American dream, which is becoming increasingly inaccessible for working families.
